Academic Institution
Subscription Information
The Academic subscription is designed for use by teaching and research
institutions. TGIF is very useful in support of programs in Landscape Architecture and Design, Horticulture, Parks and Recreation Facility Operations, Grounds and Landscape Management, and of course, the best there is in Turfgrass Science.
An "Academic
Institution 'Toolbox'" is available
to help communicate with your institution about subscribing to TGIF.
The set of academic subscribers can be considered a consortium of institutions
cooperating
to make TGIF
available
in support
of their
research, teaching and extension purposes, including curricular access
for student use. It is hoped that national, state, provincial, regional,
or local turfgrass foundations/associations would subscribe on behalf
of "their" academic institution(s). Two subscription options
— perpetual (best value) or annual — are available.
Here is a two-page color handout on TGIF including benefits and costs for perpetual subscriptions.

The Academic Institution rate includes:
-
A single "campus-wide" (formerly called "student")
logon, which can be used by up to 3 simultaneous users. Users have unlimited, unmetered online use. Normally, IP authentication is used to manage the access.
-
Up to three "regular" designated online accounts, each
of which has a separate logon. Any extra-cost services, such as document
delivery, may be billed separately or centrally, as you designated.
The first of these three accounts will be set up for the contact
of the institution when the subscription is received.
-
Primary contact receives center mailings, including The Sward
newsletter. TGIF materials, including printed publications and
materials produced from online resources, may be reproduced for institutional
use.
Students
Turfgrass students can access and use the Turfgrass Information File
(TGIF) via several alternative means.
Students at Academic subscribing institutions
Educational institutions may subscribe to TGIF. Under this subscription,
students may be able to search the databases directly if the institution
has established such a procedure. Ask your instructors or library if your
institution is an Academic subscriber or check the List
of Institutions who have implemented some form of IP address- access
(note that not all machines on your campus may be authorized for access.).
This provides World Wide Web access for up to three simultaneous users
at your institution.
Students at other institutions
Educational institutions that are not Academic subscribers are encouraged
to become involved in TGIF use and support. Print
the Academic subscription information off this web site and pass it
along to your instructors or library for action. Better yet, organize
a fundraiser or solicit your local/state/regional turfgrass foundation
or association to support your access to turfgrass educational resources.
Additionally, any student can subscribe to TGIF as an Individual,
just like any other professional.
