Abstract/Contents: | Describes how Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) chapters in Arizona and Georgia have developed a program with their respective state governments to help define best management practices (BMPs) for water conservation on golf course turf. Profiles David Wienecke of the Arizona GCSA and Frank Siple and Mark Esoda of the Georgia GCSA and describes how they developed a way to define BMPs for water conservation on golf courses. Highlights the current status of water conservation efforts at several Arizona golf courses and describes the agreement between the state of Georgia and the Georgia GCSA to ensure that "75% of member golf courses will be using water-conservation BMPs within three years." Discusses several different ways to measure current water conservation efforts and ways to determine overall water needs for golf course turf. Describes basic rules to govern outdoor water usage and different ways golf courses can become exempt from abiding by these rules. Discusses the positive relations between golf courses and the state government as a result of the conservation efforts and regulations. |
