Abstract/Contents:Presents a study conducted "to evaluate cultivars of Zoysia for resistance to hunting billbug and to identify potential mechanisms of resistance." Details the materials and methods used in the study, stating that the plants were "allowed to establish for five days in the cages before hunting billbug adults were introduced." Reports that "Diamond, Zorro, Cavalier, Royal, and El Toro exhibited the least visual damage and were ranked highest when plants were exposed to billbugs." Concludes that "the higher number of shoots and roots and the ability of the Z. matrella cultivars to compensate for feeding damage to the rhizome through lateral branching are forms of tolerance to hunting billbug feeding."
