Abstract/Contents:Presents research conducted in Virginia to "determine [the] survival of [young fledgling] bluebirds after they leave the nest." Details the materials and methods used in the study, stating that "we used small radio-transmitters to track fledgling survival on golf courses in 2008 and 2009." Reports that "bluebird fledglings died primarily from hawk predation, but some died from starvation or disease, snake predation or window strikes." Also includes information regarding bluebird mortality on non-golf course locations, and concludes that "this study is the first to document that bluebird fledglings on golf courses do no worse than their reference counterparts, despite the potential threats of human disturbance, pesticides, and intensive turf management."
