Abstract/Contents: | States that "scientists with the Agricultural Research Service are experimenting with...methods in water management that promise to reduce the amount nitrates and other ag chemical growers are losing to everyday runoff." Results indicate that "growers can minimize the affect [effect] on the environment by concentrating the highest volume of runoff release during the winter and allowing other time periods when fields are fallow." Concludes that "sustainable irrigation and drainage systems are needed to address the water quantity and quality problems in irrigated agriculture." |
