| Abstract/Contents: | Discusses Poa trivialis, stating that the rough-stalk bluegrass is popular "as a temporary fairway turfgrass that is overseeded into bermudagrass for winter play in the South...[and] an unwanted grass on Midwestern and mid-Atlantic golf courses." States that "most turfgrass researchers agree that the primary source for undesired Poa trivialis is contaminated seed." Discusses potential benefits of Poa trivialis use and possible contamination concerns. Also discusses chemical control and the battles Midwest golf courses face. Concludes that "studies at Purdue [University] are looking beyond spraying for Poa trivialis...[possibly] using the herbicide combined with seeding annually for two or three years to learn the best way to get creeping bentgrass back on the fairways." |
