USGA Summary Points: | A US Plant Patent application was filed in 2023 for 'OKC3920' bermudagrass. Last year, the genotype was released as a new cultivar for use on golf course putting greens in the US transition zone. A large 'OKC3920' putting green nursery was established to study the effects of Proxy growth regulator (Ethephon, 2-chloroethyl phosphonic acid) on seedhead suppression. The study indicated that applying Proxy at a 0.5x rate in the first week of May and another spray two weeks later was fully effective in suppressing seedheads throughout the growing season this year. One interspecific F1 hybrid (Cynodon dactylon x C, transvaalensis '15x9', survived the last winter at the mowing height of 3.2 mm (1/8") without protective cover while 'TifEagle' and 'Tifdwarf' were fully winterkilled. The bermudagrass nursery established in 2017 was continued to collect data for turfgrass performance in 2023. A new nursery consisting of 52 clonal genotypes with 'TifTuf' and 'Astro' as checks, and five seeded experimental synthetics with 'Monaco' as a check was established in the summer of 2023. The greens-type mowing test established in 2022 was carried out under the direction of Dr. Mingying Xiang, to collect data on turfgrass quality and ball roll distance. |
