| Abstract/Contents: | "The relationships of root zone amendment properties to initial and long-term golf putting green quality are poorly defined. Consequently, criteria for amendment selection are obscure. Putting greens constructed with six organic and an inorganic root zone amendment are providing the data needed to relate amendment properties to the quality of creeping bentgrass (Agrostis palustris Hud.). Bentgrass establishment and subsequent quality are strongly related and, in turn, are primarily influenced by the moisture relationships of the putting greens. Amendment fiber content best serves as an indicator of moisture retention and saturated flow rates. Secondary amendment influences on putting green quality arise from effects on nutrient dynamics." |
