Abstract/Contents: | "Successful establishment of zoysiagrass by seed will depend upon identifying the optimal planting dates by overcoming temperature as a major limiting factor. Seed treatment plays an important role in early seed germination as rapid seedling emergence. Seed treated with 300 g kg⁻¹ KOH for 15 min increased rate of germination and final germination percentage in petri dishes at temperatures of 18, 23 and 30 °C. Rate and final percentage of germination, especially at 18°C were lower than at 30°C. There was no germination at 13°C. After 29 days at these temperatures, including 13°C, the non-germinated seed were trasferred to 30°C where, after 1 week, the final germination approached that of 30°C. A date of planting experiment with 'Zenith' was planted in the field using seed treatment combinations of seed priming, 300 g kg⁻¹ KOH for 15 min, and 2 g kg⁻¹ KNO₃. Seed were covered with 'seed guard' for 10 days after seeding. Results on emergence, turf quality, and establishment will be discussed." |
