Abstract/Contents: | "Actively growing turf rapidly immobilizes applied N, thus restricting nutrient movement. It is possible, however, that suppression of growth with PGRs could reduce N demand and N uptake. An experiment was conducted to investigate how trinexapac-ethyl (TE) affects N use efficiency in Tifway bermudagrass. Turf was established into a medium sand in column lysimeters. TE was applied twice at four-week intervals. Ammonium nitrate (AN) was applied at 50 kg N/ha three times during the experiment. Separate sets of columns received 15N-labeled AN for the first two applications. Recovery of applied 15N was 80%, indicating efficient N uptake. TE reduced 15N allocation to clippings by 28% but did not affect 15N allocation to other tissues. Results demonstrated chemical growth suppression with TE did not reduce N uptake or increase nitrate losses from bermudagrass." |
