| Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the proceedings of the First Annual Fescue Symposium, held at the 2002 Golf Course Superintendents Association of America's conference at Orlando, FL. Describes "the new propensity to use fine fescues for fairways" because they "produce a true 'links' style golf course" and they "provide a more environmentally-friendly golf course." Discusses irrigation of fine fescues, focusing on drainage issues. Describes mowing tolerance of fine fescues on golf fairways and greens. Discusses the lower fertility requirements of fine fescues. Details the traffic tolerance of fine fescue, suggesting that researchers need to determine "if there is a specific level of nutrient inputs that will enhance traffic tolerance." Discusses the need for regular cultivation on fine fescues as thatch production can be a problem. Describes the "relatively good disease resistance" of fine fescues and also the weed control strategies needed on fine fescue turf.
