| Abstract/Contents: | Preliminary study to determine if high application rates of certain major and minor nutrients could produce a visual color or growth response in sand-based greens. Ten treatments were applied on March 19, 1985 to three sand based golf greens at Griffin Gate Golf Course near Lexington. Since these greens had been very slow to green-up during the unusually warm spring weather, a nutrient response would be very evident. A soil analysis made by the University of Kentucky Soil Test Laboratory gave the following results (average): pH-7.9, P-8, K-85, Mg-89 and Ca-2230 lbs per acre. A table provides treatments and application rate. Three days after treatments, the nitrogen and iron sulfate plots began to green-up and withing six days the nitrogen and both iron treatments had resulted in a significant color improvement. After nine days, only the nitrogen plots were evident and the iron response had dissappeared. Although additional nitrogen was added to the entire test site after ten days, the urea plot was still evident after one month. |
