Abstract/Contents: | Discusses The Scandinavian Turfgrass Research Foundation and The Norwegian Agricultural Inspection Authority's evaluation project for golf greens started in 2003. Lists maintenance practices as follows: "cutting with walk-behind mowers to 3mm ( IAgrostis and Poa) or 4.5 mm (Festuca) 3 times a week; input of fertilizer (Arena) every 2 weeks, totalling 1.9 kg P and 3.4 kg K per 100 m2; verticutting and topdressing every 3 weeks in Agrostis/Poa and every 6 weeks in Festuca; [and] daily compaction/wear with a tractor-pullled wear drum with soft spikes (Landvik only)." Provides concluding remarks and provisional recommendations, including "1. Poa annua '53535353True Putt' was inferior for most paramaters an can hardly be regarded as an alternative either to other species or to local ecotypes of Poa annua, on Scan[d]inavian golf greens"; 2." Agrostis canina may be an alternative to the best varieties of . stolonifera on high-class Scandinavian golf greens"; 3. "The new A. stolonifera variety 'Independence' was at a level with the best Penn A and G varieties with respect to tiller density and visual merit"; 4. "Although spots of Gauemannomyces graminis were more frequent in A. capillaris than in any other species at Landvik, significant differences in susceptibility could not be detected among varieties"; 5. Within Festuca rubra, visual merit and tiller density scores were generally higher in trichophylla than in commutata types at both locations"; and 6. "Among Festuca rubra var. commutata varieties, 'Darwin' had the darkest colour at both locations." |
