Abstract/Contents: | Discusses a study "to explore and present a new method of putting green traffic simulation and to determine the relationship between putting green traffic and daily cup rotation on a putting green." States that an observation trial was conducted in 2003 at Forest Akers Golf Course at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan to count each golfer's footsteps as they walked onto the putting green, made their putts, and walked off of the green. Describes the study and states that "six circles were 'etched' into the green representing six different pin placements and/or six different days of the week" and "any amount of a foot or shoe entering any part of the circle was counted as a footstep, and footsteps in the outer and inner circles were differentiated as specific data." States that the majority of the footsteps were made around the pin placement for that day and concludes traffic has a negative effect on turfgrass health just as pin rotation has a positive effect on turfgrass helath. |
