Abstract/Contents:Discusses three studies evaluating shade and wear effects on sports field mixtires. States that "all treatments in each study received similar wear with the Brinkman Traffic Simulator. Eight weeks of wear was applied in fall of 2004, spring of 2005 and fall 2005. This type of wear coincided with fall football and spring soccer." Reports that "the KBG + A.R [Kentucky bluegrass and annual ryegrass] plots were similar in quality to the KBG + I.R. [Kentucky bluegrass and intermediate ryegrass] plots throughout both fall and spring wear." Concludes that "the entire study exhibited a reduction in shear strength and turf qualities for wear plots compared to the plots without wear. The KBG added stability when planted in mixtures with the ryegrasses and was visually observed as the first grass to recover after wear."
