Abstract/Contents:Profiles the 17th hole at The Members Course of the Grande Dunes resort in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. States that "the 17th hole... crosses a creek that's on the tail end of a large wetlands area that empties into the region's most definitive feature, the Intercoastal Waterway." Describes how part of the creek "was in a serious state of degradation caused by erosion on the banks on both sides, necessitating a full-scale stabilization project." Details the process of renovating the bunkers, stating that "keeping an eye on how the creek restoration holds up is a given." Concludes that "both superintendent and architect agree that the integration of environmental enhancements into the creation of [number] 17 has been a hugely successful endeavor after a somewhat apprehensive beginning."
