Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the use of growing degree days and the phenological events of concern to pest management: a) beginning of above ground plant growth in spring, and b) hatch or break in dormancy of arthropods associated with a particular host plant. The link of plant threshold temperature to insect phenology is through the ties of phytophagous insects to their host plant. Should they hatch or emerge from dormancy before their host plant can provide food, they do not survive. Provides formulas to calculate growing degree days to any base. |
