Abstract/Contents: | Announces Dr. Joe Vargas, a professor in the Michigan State University (MSU) Plant Pathology department, as the recipient of the 2007 Green Section Award by the United States Golf Association (USGA), which is awarded for "contributions to golf through work with turfgrass and is determined annually by a distinguished panel of experts in the field." Profiles Vargas' academic and professional achievements, including the discovery in the 1970s that, "contrary to public opinion, annual bluegrasses do not routinely die from high temperatures in the summer, but from two diseases." |
