Abstract/Contents: | Biotic control agents that feed on Blissus insularis Barber, a pest of St. Augustine grass (Stenotaphrum secundatum), in Florida were investigated in 1971-77. A scelionid egg parasite, Eumicrosoma beneficum Gah., was the only parasite found. Predatory bugs include 2 lygaeids, Geocoris uliginosus (Say) and G. bullatus (Say); a nabid, Pagasa pallipes Stal: 2 anthocorids, Xylocoris vicarius (Reut.) and Lasiochilus pallidulus Reut.; and a reduviid, Sinea sp. Other predators included a dermapteran, Labidura riparia (Pall.); several ant species, primarily Solenopsis geminata (F.); and a spider, Lycosa sp. A fungus, Beauveria bassiana, also attacked Blissus insularis. The biotic control agent that appeared to regulate populations of the bug were E. beneficum, G. uliginosus, X. vicarius and Labidura riparia. |
