Fall 2022 Update:

During the Fall 2022 semester, there are several routes to get in touch with the Turfgrass Information Center.

  • The department will be open to the public Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 9am-5pm.

Abstract/Contents:Presents a study conducted on Pennlawn red grass. States that "the parents strains were under test 4 years, at University park, Pennsylvania, and the synthetic Pennlawn strain has been tested in replicated turf plots 4 years in Pennsyvania and 3 years at Beltsville, Md. [Maryland]" Reports that "Pennlawn has better foliage density and faster rate of spread by underground root stocks than other varieties of red fescue...the average turf quality scores for red fescue varieties over a 4-year periods at University Park, Pennsylvania, were Pennlawn - 85, Trinity - 76, Chewings - 76, Illahee - 75, and common red fescue - 69."
