Abstract/Contents: | Describes how the fear of litigation among playing surface management in Australia and New Zealand has led to a decline in athletic participation and maintenance efficiency. Discusses the importance of understanding "the requirements of the sports in question...and ways of measuring and specifying these requirements...to satisfy the needs of participants (and regulatory bodies)." States that international standards regulating "how a surface should perform" should be sport and level of sport dependent and should be "quick and simple to use"; "inexpensive"; "operator insensitive"; and "meaningful." |
