Abstract/Contents: | Discusses spring flooding, highlighting flooding at the Banff Springs Hotel in Banff, Canada. States that "small creeks which in August show practically no flow at all are apt to become destructive agents of no mean power in a spring." Recommends "checking of tile drainage systems"; keeping "a watchful eye on all steep slopes at the foot of which expensive turf may lie"; and "wherever such ditches connect with running streams, attention should be paid to clearing and widening at the junction to prevent possibility of a deviation in the direction of flow into the main stream." Also states that "shoring up with rocks will help, but in emergencies...further digging out at bends may more quickly release flood waters." |
