Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the increases in the cost of crude oil and increases in fertilizer prices stating that "turfgrass and landscape managers must focus on the seasonal fertility requirements of turfgrasses, the nutrient levels in the soil and plant tissue, and the particle size, uniformity and cost of granular fertilizers." Lists the 16 macro- and micronutrients "essential...to survive and reproduce." Explains that carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen are supplied by air and water and that the other 13 elements - nitrogen, phosphorous, potassium, calcium, magnesium, sulfur, boron, chlorine, copper, iron, manganese, molybdenum - are supplied by soil. Mentions that "turfgrass and soils can be periodically tested to determine if all required mineral nutrients are present to ensure plant health...fertilizers are applied when tests indicate that nutrients are absent or present only in low concentrations." |
