Abstract/Contents: | Profiles the Japanese golf industry, stating that "the golf industry is...very competitive...cooperation between courses is almost non-existent... Describes equipment used, such as "a fairway topdresser that hydraulically lowers itself, with self-contained ramps that allow a truck to easily dump into the hopper without the topdresser needing to be transported large distances"; "green sweepers that work...for removing plugs after aerifying"; and "the use of the simple board rake for topdressing after deep core aerification." Describes the procedures used by Horai Country Club in Tochigi-ken, Japan, to correct the loss of turf and algae infestation caused by an extended period of heavy rainfall and no sunlight, including creating a new seedbed, drying out the subsoil, destroying the algae, and constructing trench drains on the fairways. States that a superintendent should "never limit [himself] by what [he has], but use [his] imagination and what [he has] to overcome the odds." |
