Abstract/Contents: | Presents research conducted to "determine the effects of sand particle size distribution and topdressing layer depth on moisture retention and soil temperatures." Explains that "a field study was initiated in July 2007 to determine the short and long term effects of...sand types on turfgrass health in the field." States that the objectives of this were to "quantify the effects of particle size distribution and topdressing layer depth on bulk density, and infiltration rates"; "determine whether particle size distribution and/or application rate will affect turfgrass quality, disease incidence and earthworm activity"; and "determine the most effective incorporation method that does not affect turfgrass health." Reports that "preliminary field data is...providing valuable information including an increase in turfgrass color response from topdressing applications compared to the control and an overall rate effect showing lower dollar spot counts per unit area for all sands at the high application rate (12 ft3 [cubic feet]/1000ft2 [square feet]." |
