Abstract/Contents: | States that "in this study data collected from several ski slopes located in different parts of that [the] Italian Alps are reported to provide information on the colonisation [colonization] of sward by native species." Details methods and materials used in the study, staing that "the study was carried out at three different Italian ski resorts at mean hights ranging from 1425 to 2240 m [meters] asl [above sea level] (Lombardia, Alto-Adige and Veneto)." Reports that "the revegetation of the sown ski slopes was successful and soil cover was influenced by sward age, with values for ground cover varying from 57% after 5 years to 85% after 21 years...Persistency of the sown species was in some cases very good at least in terms of number of species, whereas the number of native species and their contribution increased with time." Concludes that "the study highlights the importance of recolonisation by native species in different environmental conditions, even after revegetation performed with very simple commercial mixtures. After many years the number and the presence of autochthonous plants is relatively high, confirming the ecological adaptability of these species in the naturalisation process. Site altitude and time from sowing are important factors that in [the] research affected in a strong way the recover performed by native species." |
