Abstract/Contents: | Presents a study conducted to examine diseases on Czech golf course turfgrass and potential causes. Details methods and materials used in the study, stating that "the examination of the state of health of the putting greens and fairways was carried out in the growing season of the years 2006-2007 on golf courses in different soil and climatic conditions...The appearance of the infected turf was evaluated and visually described and photo documentation was taken. The infected parts of the root and shoot were microscopically examined almost immediately after collecting samples from the site, the samples of dead leaves and roots were placed on the culture medium (Czapek-Dox agar) and after 14 days they were microscopically examined." Reports that "the largest number of leaf spots and changes in colour [color] caused by biotic effects was found on golf greens and fairways, whereas on tees no such disorders were reported." Concludes that "the investigation into the turfgrass of three golf courses on different sites in the Czech Republic confirmed the extent and the importance of damage to putting greens and fairways in the growing season which is caused by species of the genus Fusarium. The examination also confirmed a frequent occurrence of anthracnose on the greens. Long-term monitoring of the occurrence of serious diseases on golf courses is necessary." |
