Abstract/Contents:Presents a study conducted to "evaluate the impact of N [nitrogen] fertilization, mefluidide (ME), trinexapac-ethyl (TE), verticutting (VC) and the potential interactions of these factors on anthracnose of annual bluegrass putting green turf." Details methods and materials used in the study, stating that "a 3-year field trial was initiated in 2003 on annual bluegrass turf grown on a Nixon sandy loam with a pH of 5.9...Turf was mown 1 to 2 times per day with a triplex mower at a bench setting of 3.2 mm [millimeters]. Silica sand was topdressed over the entire trial at 88.7 cm3 [cubic centimeters] m-2 [per square meter] and incorporated with a cocoa mat drag ever 14 days after VC treatment." Reports that "N fertilization frequency had the greatest influence on disease throughout the trial; N applied at 4.9 kg [kilograms] ha-1 [per hectare] every 7 days reduced damage 5 to 24% compared to a 28 days interval." Concludes that "frequent low rate soluble-N fertilization during the middle of the growing season can dramatically reduce anthracnose severity on putting greens."
