| Abstract/Contents: | Details a study comparing "interesting genotypes" of Kentucky bluegrass Poa pratensis L. to "commercial varieties, with the ultimate goal of identifying candidate material for future release." Details methods and materials used in the study, stating that "thirty genotype progenies originating from Italian populations and six commercial varieties (Kenblue, Baron, Bluestar, Moonlight, Midnight and Brilliant) were evaluated in Lodi over the 2006 and 2007 years...The material was evalauted for a range of 24 characters, which could be broadly grouped into four classes: 'turf quality', 'plant vigour', 'phenology and reproduction' and 'response to stresses.'" Reports that "the first two principal components (Prin) accounted for over 69% of the total variation among entries...by the combination of positive values of both Prin 1 (good quality, stress tolerance and seed yield) and Prin 2 (moderate plant vigour), nine progenies were noted in this evaluation." |
