Details methods and materials used in the study, stating that "the four velvet bentgrass cultivars 'Avalon', 'Greenwich', 'Villa' and 'Legendary' and the creeping bentgrass cultivar 'Penn A-4' (control) were sown at a rate of 6.7 g [grams] m2 [per square meter] in 7.5x10x10 cm [centimeter] plots filled with USGA [United States Golf Association]-spec sand containing 0.5%...organic matter." Reports that "on average for hardening conditions and five freezing temperatures, all velvet bentgrass cultivars survived freezing marginally, but significantly better than 'Penn A-4'...On average for cultivars, prolongation of the winter conditions from six to twelve weeks caused a more dramatic decline in turfgrass survival under simulated ice cover than under simulated snow cover or without cover."
