Abstract/Contents: | Presents results regarding control of annual grass weeds in established grasses by prodiamine, a pre-emergence herbicide, at rates of 0.28 to 2.24 kg ai/ha and compared to normal use rates of benefin, bensulide, DCPS, oryzalin, oxadiazon and pendimethalin. Control ability of prodiamine was superior to pendimethalin on crabgrass in spring applications; superior to benefin, oxadiazon and oryzalin on smooth crabgrass in winter applications; superior in most cases to benefin, oxadiazon and DCPA on smooth crabgrass in spring applications; and superior to bensulide on Poa annua. No phytotoxicity was noted from any treatment to the fine-leaved fescue, perennial ryegrass, or Kentucky bluegrass in these trials. In 80 trials in California and Arizona in 1986 no phytotoxicity was observed on common and hybrid bermudagrass or kikuyugrass. Prodiamine at 1.12 kg ai/ha gave longer control than the normal use rates of benefin, bensulide, DCPA, oxadiazon, oryzalin and pendimethalin in coarse and fine-textured soils when applied in the spring and fall on established turfs. |
