| Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the 2007 American Society for Horticultural Science annual conference, highlighting various presentations on "methods for measuring turfgrass stress responses." Profiles Dr. Bernd Leinauer from New Mexico State University and his presentation on water conservation. States that "the two main issues of water for turf irrigation in the West [United States] are quantity and salinity." Provides potential methods of monitoring soil moisture and salinity. Also profiles Dr. John Sorochan from the University of Tennessee and his presentation about compaction; Dr. Brian Horgan from the University of Minnesota; and Dr. Doug Karcher from the University of Arkansas. States that "Doug has...developed a system using easily obtained components that allows rapid and repeatable (thus reliable) collection of turf color and cover data." States that "technology such as ground-penetrating radar will likely become a contracted service by which superintendents may have their fairways 'mapped' to reveal problem areas which can then be properly handled to improve course conditions." |
