Abstract/Contents: | "Spoon-feeding, or frequent applications of liquid fertilizer at low rates, is a common method for turfgrass fertilization on sand-based golf greens (Carrow et al., 2001). Although labour intensive, spoon-feeding is flexible and allows rapid adjustments of fertilizer rates to prevailing weather, wear intensity, disease pressure and other growing conditions. Due to this flexibility, weekly applications of low rates of liquid fertilizers is one of the cornerstones in a demand-driven fertilizer programme (Ericsson, 2005). Besides the high number of liquid fertilizers produced specifically for turf, many industrial by-products have the potential to become turfgrass fertilizers if refined properly. The primary objective of this research was to make a first evaluation of Hydrolysed Salmon Protein (HSP 15-1-2, Marine Bioproducts AS, Bergen, Norway) as fertilizer for turfgrass grow-in and maintenance. HSP was compared, either alone or supplemented with a fertilizer rich in P and K, to four liquid products or product combinations marketed for use on Scandinavian golf courses." |
