Abstract/Contents:Presents studies conducted in Tucson, Arizona during the 1960s to "evaluate chemicals for the control of the bermudagrass mite, Aceria neocynodonis." Details methods and materials used during the experiments, noting that "sprays were applied with a Hudson tank-type compressed air sprayer with a 5-foot, 4-nozzle boom equipped with Delavan ES6-80° nozzles for application to the field plots." States that "the rating of the mite damage in the field was made by observing the grass or by feeling it." Examines the results of the studies, reporting that "both Dursban and Zectran reduced the mites over the untreated plugs, at the 1% [percent] level of statistical significance." Provides tables on insecticide materials used, the effect of treatments on bermudagrass mite damage, and the effect of treatments on bermudagrass grass mite abundance (with regard to both individually infested plants and grass plugs in pots). Concludes that "insecticidal treatments alone in the early spring do not give appreciable reduction of bermudagrass mite damage or significant improvement in the green color of the grass."
