Abstract/Contents:Reports on a study conducted by New Mexico State University to improve seed propagated bermudagrass in the development of the NuMex Sahara variety. Details the materials and methods used in the study, stating that "NuMex Sahara was developed by intercrossing 8 clones selected on the basis of polycross progeny performance for turf quality. [Progeny] plants were subjected to several cycles of phenotypic recurrent selection for shorter intermodes and increased color and density." Reports that "NuMex Sahara is a seed propagated cultivar with medium texture, density and plant height developed for general purpose use such as golf course fairways." Concludes that "these studies...should be helpful in the future in determining the most effective breeding procedure for tetraploid bermudagrass."
