| Abstract/Contents: | Briefly reports on research conducted by the Agricultural Research Service division of the United States Department of Agriculture on apomixis in eastern gamagrass, seed shattering in kleingrass, apomictic breeding of eragrostis, the efficiency of heat tolerance screening systems, phylogenetic characteristics of the genus Paspalum, and physiological characterization of dallisgrass biotypes. Mentions the methods used in the studies, highlighting recurrent selection, forage yield testing, apomictic breeding, progeny testing, heat tolerance screening, and visual evaluation as methods of analysis. Concludes that "experiments to determine the effect of plant density on entry discrimination in forage production trials will be completed this year. These experiments will enable better decision making as to how forage grass production trials should be designed and harvested." |
