Abstract/Contents:Profiles perennial ryegrass, focusing on its use on sports fields. Explains that "the question of whether...to establish and/or overseed perennial ryegrass on sports fields is an issue sports field managers...face every year." Details characteristics of perennial ryegrass, including growth habit, chemical application tolerance, and physical appearance. Suggests that "the strongest argument in support of perennial ryegrass...[is that it germinates] in as little as 4 days, grows and develops quickly, and tolerates moderate amounts of wear within a few weeks of germination." Briefly discusses potential limitations for the turf-type, and concludes that "perennial ryegrass grows vigorously during cool moist weather and is further enhanced by high soil fertility and fertilization."
