Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the potential benefits of written specification regarding the construction of sports fields, suggesting that "[they] are necessary for the successful completion of the project." Explains that "the specifications are used to qualify contractors, choose specific material, specify agronomics, establish construction procedures, specify equipment, and set quality standards for the project." Provides recommendations as to how to write the specifications in order to avoid additional costs or incomplete projects, stressing the potential importance of integrating "purchasing language into the specification to ensure it is enforceable by law." Lists the potential requests that may be present in the specification, presenting an example of what "a typical athletic field construction" necessitates, including "removing or demolishing an existing field, stripping and storing topsoil, [and] rough grading the subgrade." Recommends explaining in technical terms every item in detail, providing a detailed example. Presents various equipment and methods which may be used during the construction, explaining the details of each request which may include field removal and rough grading. Concludes that "the realm of technical specifications is a huge, complicated subject that integrates so much information," and suggests that the specifications should be precise in order to "protect all parties involved." |
