Abstract/Contents: | Presents a study conducted in the area of Tucson and Phoenix, Arizona during 1969-70 to determine potentially effective means of controlling the granulate cutworm (Feltia subterranea). Details the experiment's procedure, noting that "since cutworms are nocturnal feeders, it was necessary in making counts to bring them up from the soil without injuring the dichondra sod." Reports that "AktonR, toxaphene, and methomyl gave the best control of this cutworm." Provides a table that shows insecticide type, amount applied, and number of larvae present 2, 7, 14, and 29 days after treatment. Concludes that "all the insecticides except toxaphene and methomyl are recommended for use in yards." |
