Abstract/Contents: | "The management of localized dry spots caused by hydrophobic soils continues to be a challenge to golf course superintendents. Over the past several years many approaches to managing this perplexing problem have been researched. At the present time, wetting agents appear to be the most feasible management strategy available. Our past research has shown that all wetting agents tested did not reduce the water repellent nature of a hydrophobic soil; however, phytotoxicity, rates used and frequency of application vary greatly among wetting agents on the market today. In addition, the use of soil amending product such as porous ceramics to diatomaceous earth are receiving increased interest by golf course superintendents as a management tool for hydrophobic soils. We will continue to evaluate the effectiveness of wetting agents and soil amendments for soil management." |
