| Abstract/Contents: | Discusses cultivar trials conducted at the O.J. Noer Turfgrass Research and Educational Facility in Madison, Wisconsin by the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Explains that "data...[collected] include percent germination, spring greenup, and turf quality monthly during the growing season." Warns against looking "at the overall quality data averaged across all states...[because] if certain states or management techniques are unfavourable [unfavorable] for a given species or cultivar their average may be relatively meaningless." Recommends looking "at the data generated from the most similar climate and management conditions to the situation in question." Addresses turf growth rate, suggesting that early growth may be a "negative relationship between spring greenup...and [the] average turf quality." Mentions budget cuts regarding cultivar trials, including brief information on collaboration between Wisconsin and other states. |
