Abstract/Contents: | Some of the things most architects agree on are that a green must fit into existing terrain, the need to provide adequate drainage away from the line of play, slopes and contours around the green and on the putting surface should consist of gentle undulations that blend into the natural terrain rather sharp slopes or abrupt rises that contrast with the surroundings, and that greens should be designed with a particular shot in mind. A point on which there is still much disagreement is the method of constructing the putting green. The USGA Green Section method of putting green construction is the most talked about but the least understood. Another system of putting green construction the PURR-WICK which has some limitations. Requirements for a well built golf green should have these common traits--drainage, compacted sand topmix and moisture retention. |
