Abstract/Contents: | First report of test established 9/88 to evaluate 48 named and experimental tall fescue cultivars under Kentucky's climactic conditions. Three replications are maintained at 1.5 inch mowing height and three replications at a 3.0 mowing height. Three pounds of nitrogen per 1000 square feet are applied annually during the fall and early winter. Tables provide 1989 average visual quality ratings (1 to 9; 9=best quality) and % brown patch on 9/2/89 with least significant difference values. At 1.5 inches, quality ratings ranged from 5.8 (Johnstone) to 8.1 (Rebel Jr.). Brown patch was greater than 10% in all cultivars except Johnstone, Rebell II, Silverado, and Bel 86-2 and was greatest in Trailblazer at 43%. At 3 inches, quality ratings ranged from 5.4 (Johnstone) to 7.2 (5MW). Brown patch was greater than 10% in all cultivars except 5MW and was greater than 50% in Murietta (5D7), Eldorado (5D1), Bel 86-2, Jaquar 2, and Bonanza. |
