Abstract/Contents: | Reports susceptibility of 6 cool season turfgrasses and endophyte-infected tall fescue and perennial ryegrass to masked chafer and Japanese beetle grubs. Growth and survival studies of grubs in turf plugs, fed washed roots, and in field plots were initiated in 1988. Two-year results of these continuing studies have shown that: 1) all common cool season turfgrasses are susceptible to both species of grubs, 2) tall fescue resistance may be because of nutritional unsuitably, 3) Kentucky bluegrass has poor grub-induced damage to tolerance, 4) both grub species did relatively poorly on bentgrass, and 5) endophyte probably does not convey significant resistance to grubs in the field but it does confer resistance to surface feeding pests. |
