Abstract/Contents: | 1988 evaluation of several grass, reeds, and sedge ornamentals obtained from a nursery, garden center, or roadsides and established in Kentucky near Lexington in 1987 or 1988. Three crowns or rhizomes of each species were planted in rows, 10 feet apart, in a well-drained Maury silt loam soil located in full sun. Plots are irrigated as needed and nitrogen fertilizer was applied in May. Tables summarize: 1) grasses that died the first winter or second summer, 2) 1988 spring, summer, and fall quality, date of initial inflorescence, and aggressiveness for grasses characterized as small (<2'), medium (2-4') or large (>4'), and 3) best ornamentals with a brief description. |
