Abstract/Contents:1988 study to evaluate several candidate and registered fungicides for dollar spot control on a Penncross creeping bentgrass green near Lexington, KY. The turf was maintained at a 0.25 in. mowing height, received 2 lb N/1000 ft2/yr, and otherwise received conventional maintenance. Each treatment was replicated four times in a randomized complete block design with 5ft x 6ft plots. Treatments were applied using a hand-pumped Solo backpack sprayer with a 6ft, four nozzle boom delivering 2 gal/1000 ft2 and operating at 25 psi. Fungicides were first applied to plots in experiment A on 26 May, and continued on 9, 18 and 23 Jun, and 7 and 21 Jul, depending on the application interval desired. Experiment B treatments were begun 2 Jun, and continued for the spray interval desired on 16 and 30 Jun, and 14 and 29 Jul. Curative treatments in experiment B were begun 14 Jul. Plots were evaluated 28 Jul (A) and 8 Aug (B) by counting the number of dollar spot infection centers per plot. Fungicides, application rates, and number of dollar spot infection centers/30ft2 are provided in a table. Dollar spot first appeared in early Jul and developed to high levels by the end of the month. All fungicides except Rizolex and Flutolanil were effective in controlling dollar spot.
