Abstract/Contents: | 1983 update of 2 tests to evaluate long-term qualtiy of certain new and experimental fineleaf fescue (red, chewings, hard fescue) varieties in a Kentucky location. Test 1 (established fall 1976) includes 10 varieties with 3 replications. Three pounds of nitrogen/1,000 square feet are applied annually during fall and early winter, mowing height is 2 inches. A table provides 1977-83 annual and 7-year average visual quality ratings (1 to 9;9=best quality) with significant differences indicated for 1983. 7-year average ratings ranged form 3.4 (Highlight) to 6.3 (C-26, SW). Test 2 (established 9/83) is a part of the National Fineleaf Fescue Variety Test. Forty-eight experimental and commercially available cultivars were seeded in three replications (4.65 lb/1,000 square feet). Data will be collected in 1984. |
