Abstract/Contents: | Perennial ryegrass cultivars were tested for tolerance to brown patch disease. Located at Spindletop farm in Ky, 48 cultivars were seeded into randomized 6' x 10' blocks, replicated 3 times, in Sept 1982. Plots received conventional care and a 2 inch mowing height was maintained. Disease ratings were made on Aug 4 and were based on percent brown patch-killed turfgrass in each plot. Disease pressure was high, but damage may have been increased due to drought and hot weather. Despite a significant difference between replicates (cause unknown) a significant difference between varieties also exists. Visibly greater healthy turf coverage was easy to observe in the field when comparing varieties having less than 10% brown patch to those varieties having 25% or more brown patch. Brown patch ratings are presented. All Star had least and Pippin most brown patch. |
