Abstract/Contents: | 1981 study of several experimental and standard herbicides for control of wild violet (Viola sp.) and narrow-leaf plantain (Plantago lanceolata L.). The site was a very mature and dense stand of wild violets located in the rough of a golf course. The plots measured 6' x 10' with 4 replications. All herbicide treatments were applied on May 29, 1981. Since the initial treatment resulted in very poor control another application of each material was applied on June 26. During the test, the sod was maintained at 3-4 inches in height. Herbicide treatments, formulations, application rates, and average percent cover of wild violets and plantains estimated from 7/1 and 7/28 are provided in 2 tables. Percent wild violets ranged from 9.4 (DPX 4189 (80W) at 0.3 and 2,4-D amine (4 E) at 1.5 #a.i./acre) while % plantains ranged from 0.0 (MCPP + 2,4-D (1:2) at 1.87 #a.i./acre) to 17.5 (Weedone HG (1.9G) at 4.0 #a.i./acre). Check for wild violets was 35.6% and for plantains was 17.5%. |
