Abstract/Contents: | "The total market for turgrass[turfgrass] seed in the five Nordic countries has been stipulated to about 6000 tonnes. Of the about 15 grass species and subspecies used for amenity grasslands, about 200 cultivars are available in Scandinavia. This cultivar guide is based on the project 'Evaluation of Agrostis and Festuca cultivars for use on golf greens in Scandinavia (2003-2007)' and on official cultivar testing in the Nordic countries during the last 20 years. After a detailed de[s]cription of the cultivars that have been tested during this period, the guide gives recommendations for which species and cultivars should be preferred on greens, fairways/tees, lawns, football pitches and in low-maintenance areas. The recommendations have been differentiated between the two main climatic zones in Scandinavina, namely a southern / coastal zone (zone 1) covering Denmark, Southern Sweden and the coastal areas in Southern Norway; and a northern / continental zone covering Finland, Central and Northern Sweden, Central and Northern Norway and inland areas in Southern Norway, and Iceland. The Nordic Turfgrass Cultivar Guide is funded by Scandinavian Turfgrass and Environment Research Foundation (STERF) and is scheduled to be revised every three to four years as results from new cultivar testing projects become available." |
